Weekly Post
May 30th
This is my last day of sculpture class! I am so thankful to have had such an amazing experience in this class and hope to continue my ceramics hobby in the future. I am honored to have received the excellence in ceramics award at my senior ceremony!!!!

Weekly Post
May 23rd-27th
This week I was very nostalgic as it was my last full week of sculpture. I made a wire tree (just like the sculpture I class) and a couple small clay tiles. The wire tree was pretty fun.... Not as fun as clay though.

This is irrelevant but....
you are never too old for face painting!
(Me at the Freedom Balloon Festival)
This week was dedicated to planning. What did I want to do in sculpture that I haven't already done? What do I want to learn more about? After asking myself these questions, I went and looked for the answers. Also, I made a paper mâché bowl!

Weekly Post
May 9th-13th
This was the week leading up to my birthday.... so I will admit I wasn't as productive with my art. However, I did draw up some pretty cool designs for my dorm room all week. My roommate was very impressed.

Weekly Post
May 2nd-6th
This week was all about the Empty Bowl Project. I enjoyed making a bowl or two for a great cause. I finished my bowl off with a purple crystalite glaze and was happy to see it was purchased (with food cans) at the auction. At the end of the week I looked into Chinese writing for my illustration Friday (which was tattoo).

Weekly Post
I took this picture on a rainy day.
I thought it was artsy.
April 25th-29th
I glazed my pencil holder and my plate. Lot's of glaze this week! I then started my brainstorming for my next project.

Weekly Post
April 18th-22nd
On the 18th I got my glazed flower pot back. I designed, created, and almost finished my pencil/makeup brush holder. I also picked a color scheme.

Weekly Post
April 11th-15th
I began this week by starting my USC logo design on my plate. I also received my flower pot from the bisque kiln and picked a color scheme. I finished glazing this week.

Weekly Post
April 4th-8th
This marks the start of a new quarter. I decided my new concentration would be "things for my dorm." This week I wasn't very busy. I put the black sgraffito on my molded plate. I wanted to make it very smooth so it took me a while to complete. I also began to brainstorm ideas for my plate design.

Weekly Post
March 21st-25th
I began the week by taking pictures of my pit fire vessel. I then added shoe polish to make it a tad shinier and put it away for the Halle Show. I am planning more for my flower pot and am excited for it to be fired!

Weekly Post
March 14th-18th
I began the week by wrapping my pit fore vessel with a bunch of flammable objects such as salt, leaves, flowers, copper coil, etc. I created a clay bowl for the Empty Bowl Project. I glazed that bowl with another crystalite glaze. This week I also researched flower pots. I came up with a square-like flower pot. Once it's fired in the bisque kiln I'm going to dip it in nail polish to give it an awesome, swirled effect.

Weekly Post
March 7th-11th
I was happy to see my pit fire vessel had come out of the kiln this week. It wasn't the shape or smoothness that I wanted but it wasn't terrible. I formulated some ideas for what to burn on it and then turned my attention to other ideas. I made a clay slab that I played around with and tested some ideas on.

Weekly Post
Feb 29th- March 4th
This week I decided to scrap my 3-D pig and move on. I sketched some more vessels and started my pit fire vessel! I had to use to coiling method. This being my first time doing so, I did not end up with the shape that I had originally wanted. It took me a loooonnnggg time to get coiling down to a science.

Weekly Post
Feb 22nd-26th
At the start of the week I received my cauliflower bowl back. I loved the glaze but wished the bowl could have been deeper (it was hard to make deep because of the bowl I molded it in). I also received my Yin-Yang bowl and took photos of all my finished pieces. I went to the media center to create a 3-D pig for the new 3-D printer. I finished it but never ended up printing it out.

Weekly Post
Feb 15-19
This week in Sculpture II I glazed my cauliflower bowl. I have never used a crystalite glaze before so it was an awesome experience. After that, I sketched out some fun vessel shapes and decided to go along with my class project themed "pit fire." I gathered inspiration on pinterest and began to research pit fire and the coiling method. It was a very productive week.

Inspired Artist

Sébastien Preschoux

I was instantly mesmerized by Sébastien Preschoux's thread installations. The colors of the thread in the limited light underneath the trees and undergrowth in his choice locations are amazing.  I love how he picks all different types of locations to set up his art. The thread also looks similar to laser beams (how cool!). I also admire how much time and effort must have been put in to creating these sculptures. The fact that he only works with thread is amazing.

February 8th-12th Weekly Post

At the beginning of this week I finished up the details of my first bowl and decided to add a yin yang symbol in the middle. After it's initial firing I sanded it, glazed it, and added some pink and clear glass. While waiting for my first bowl to finish in the kiln, I started on my second project. I made another bowl, but it was different than my first bowl. I used cauliflower to make an awesome texture (I'm calling it my inverted bowl). While that was in the kiln I started working on planning projects to come.

February 1st-5th Weekly Post

This week I came up with my first project idea to make a bowl. I gathered ideas on pinterest and got to work! I molded my bowl on another metal bowl (making sure to use cooking spray this time) and then created half-circles using a Gatorade bottle cap. I'm not sure what I want to add to the inside of the bowl yet, but I would like to incorporate some melted glass.

Sculpture 2 Honors
Assignment #1
Picking a Concentration: Vessels

Picking a concentration for an entire quarter was a daunting task. I started by making a list of 30 subjects, themes, places, things, activities, and issues that are important to me. I then began to eliminate things that didn't fill me with passion. Shapes and sunken relief were among the first to go. After eliminating cheesy topics like 2 Chainz and lacrosse, I worked on throwing out things I couldn't easily refer to. Excessively simple, common, and lacking in aesthetic appeal went next. Finally, I had narrowed my list down to vessels and astrology. Both are things I have a vested interest in, but I ruled out astrology (at least for now) because the topic of vessels gives me so many ideas. I can't wait to explore other artists who specialize in making vessels, and I can't wait to get better at making them myself.
